Historical Colorado state flag with blue-white-blue horizontal stripes and a red "C" containing a gold disk.
Colorado adopted this flag on June 5, 1911. The design was created by Andrew Carlisle Carson. In this 1911–1964 form, the flag kept the blue-white-blue striped layout with a red "C" and gold disk; a 1929 revision specified that the red and blue match the colors of the United States flag, and a 1964 revision standardized the gold disk’s diameter. The blue stripes symbolize the sky, the white stripe the snow-capped Rocky Mountains and silver mining, the red "C" the state’s name and ruddy earth, and the gold disk sunshine and gold mining.
