State flag of Austria: a red-white-red horizontal triband with the federal coat of arms centered on the white band.
Austria’s red-white-red design derives from the heraldic shield associated with the Babenberg dynasty and is documented from the early 13th century. The plain triband serves as the civil flag, while the state and war flag adds the centered Austrian coat of arms. The red-white-red flag was adopted by the First Austrian Republic in 1919, suppressed during the 1938 Anschluss, and reinstated in 1945 for the Second Republic.
