Light blue flag of Astana with a large central coat of arms framed by yellow rays and bearing the city name in Latin script.
The current flag of Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, was adopted on 18 November 2022. It was designed by Nursultan Nazarbayev. The light blue field reflects the sky as well as peace and unity, while the central coat of arms includes a stylized “A” and a golden steppe eagle symbolizing the city’s name, aspiration, and freedom. Earlier versions were used from 1998 to 2008 and from 2008 until the 2022 redesign.
