#0036 · national
The flag of the Central African Republic features four horizontal stripes of blue, white, green, and yellow, crossed by a central vertical red band, with a yellow five-pointed star in the upper hoist.
The flag was adopted on 1 December 1958 and designed by Barthélemy Boganda for the autonomous republic of Ubangi-Shari. It was retained when the country became fully independent on 13 August 1960 and remained unchanged during the Central African Empire period from 1976 to 1979. Its design combines the colors of the French tricolour with Pan-African colors to symbolize partnership between Europe and Africa.
