The flag of Djibouti features light blue over light green horizontal bands with a white hoist triangle containing a red five-pointed star.
Djibouti officially adopted this flag on 27 June 1977 at independence from France. The design is derived from the flag of the Liberation Front of the Coast of the Somalis and is associated with Mahamoud Harbi. According to the cited sources, the light blue symbolizes the sky, sea, and the Issa Somali population; green represents the earth and the Afar people; white denotes peace and equality; and the red star stands for national unity and the blood shed in the struggle for independence.
