History
The flag of Zuid-Holland was officially adopted on 24 October 1985 and came into effect on 1 January 1986. It has a 2:3 proportion. The design restores the historic arms of the medieval Counts of Holland and replaced an earlier yellow-red-yellow horizontal triband adopted in 1948. The lion was intended to represent the always victorious Lion of Judah, expressing strength and triumph.
