Veneto

The flag of Veneto was adopted on 20 May 1975 and amended in 1999 to remove the wording “Regione del Veneto.” Its design derives from the historic banner of the Republic of Venice and centers on the Lion of Saint Mark with the open gospel bearing the motto “Pax tibi Marce evangelista meus.” The lion is shown above a stylized representation of the Adriatic Sea, the Venetian Plain, and the Alps. The seven tails at the fly bear the coats of arms of the seven provincial capitals of Veneto, expressing the region’s territorial unity and continuity with Venetian symbolism.
