The national flag of Uzbekistan features horizontal blue, white, and green bands separated by thin red stripes, with a white crescent and twelve white stars in the upper hoist.
Uzbekistan adopted this flag on 18 November 1991 after independence, becoming the first newly independent Central Asian republic to replace its Soviet-era flag. The blue stripe represents the sky, water, and Turkic heritage; white symbolizes peace, purity, and the traditional wish for a good path; green stands for nature, fertility, and new life. The thin red lines signify the life-force of the people, while the crescent marks national rebirth and historic Uzbek imagery, and the twelve stars refer to the months, the zodiac, and Uzbekistan’s astronomical legacy.
