History
The flag of Umbria was officially adopted on 18 March 2004 and confirmed by regional law on 18 May 2004. Its central emblem represents the three candles of the Festa dei Ceri, celebrated each 15 May in Gubbio in honor of Saint Ubaldo. The design derives from a 1971 competition-winning emblem by architects Gino and Alberto Anselmi. The inscription "Regione Umbria" was added in law but is often omitted in common use.
