History
The flag of Marche was adopted on 4 November 1995. It places the regional emblem, approved on 15 March 1980, on a white field. The emblem combines a stylized woodpecker with the letter M for Marche. The woodpecker refers to the ancient Picentes, for whom it was a tribal totem, and also evokes the region’s green landscape. The design is credited to Maurizio Catani and Gianni Veroli.
