White flag of Emilia-Romagna with the regional emblem centered above a red horizontal bar and the green inscription “Regione Emilia-Romagna.”
This de facto regional flag has been in use since 1995 in a 2:3 proportion. It consists of a white field with the region’s emblem, a red horizontal bar, and the inscription “Regione Emilia-Romagna.” The emblem symbolizes the Po River and surrounding nature through a stylized green curve, the road and human labor through a straight black line in the emblem design, and the fertile Po Valley through the green field. Although not formally legislated, the flag entered ceremonial use after a 1995 request for regional flags by President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro and has remained in public use since then.
