The flag of Tennessee features a red field with a centered blue circle outlined in white containing three white stars, plus a vertical blue stripe at the fly separated by a white stripe.
Tennessee adopted this flag on April 17, 1905. The design was created by Colonel Le Roy Reeves. The three stars represent the state's three Grand Divisions—East, Middle, and West Tennessee—while the blue circle symbolizes their unity. The vertical white-and-blue stripe at the fly was included to give the flag distinction when hanging limp.
