Historical Arkansas state flag used from 1913 to 1923, featuring a red field with a white diamond bordered in blue, 25 white stars on the border, the name ARKANSAS, and three blue stars inside the diamond.
Arkansas adopted this flag on February 26, 1913, after a statewide design contest won by Willie Kavanaugh Hocker. The design uses a diamond to reference Arkansas as a diamond-producing region. The 25 white stars mark Arkansas as the 25th state admitted to the Union. This 1913 version contains three blue stars inside the diamond; a fourth interior star was added in 1923, making this the original form of the Arkansas state flag.
