Historical flag of Arkansas used from 1924 to 2011, featuring a red field with a white diamond bordered in blue, twenty-five white stars, and the name ARKANSAS with four blue stars inside the diamond.
Arkansas adopted its state flag in 1913 and modified it in 1923 and 1924, with this arrangement used from 1924 until a color-standardization update in 2011. The flag’s white diamond refers to the state’s diamond deposit, and the twenty-five stars in the blue border mark Arkansas as the 25th state admitted to the Union. Inside the diamond, the three lower stars symbolize Arkansas’s association with France, Spain, and the United States, the Louisiana Purchase, and its status as the third state formed from that purchase, while the fourth star honors Confederate heritage. The 1924 revision restored the layout of one star above the name and three below in an inverted triangle.
