South Uist flag

South Uist uses a community flag featuring a blue Nordic cross fimbriated in white on a green field. The design reflects the island’s Norse links, with the green representing the landscape and the blue the surrounding Atlantic waters. Its designer is unknown, and the design emerged informally in the late 1990s or early 2000s before becoming well established locally. It was formally recognised on 24 May 2017 through registration by the Court of the Lord Lyon after a petition supported by South Uist Community Council, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, and Stòras Uibhist.
