History
The Isle of Barra flag is a community flag of the Hebridean island of Barra in Scotland. Its design features a white Nordic cross on a green field in a 3:5 proportion. The white cross refers to the island’s Viking heritage, while the green represents Clan MacNeil and Barra’s close cultural links with Ireland. The design circulated in proposals in the late 1990s and early 2000s, was used unofficially for more than a decade, and was formally registered in November 2017 by the Court of the Lord Lyon and the Flag Institute.
