History
Orkney officially adopted this flag on 10 April 2007 after a public competition. The winning design was created by Duncan Tullock and chosen from five finalists. Its red and yellow colors refer to the royal arms of Scotland and Norway, reflecting Orkney’s Scottish and Norwegian heritage, while the blue recalls the Scottish flag and also represents the surrounding sea and the islands’ maritime tradition.
