Flag of Santa Ana, El Salvador, showing blue and white horizontal stripes with a red canton bearing the municipal coat of arms.
Santa Ana uses a blue-white-blue national color tradition derived from El Salvador’s flag, whose current form was codified on 24 March 1916. A departmental version with the local coat of arms centered in the white stripe was standardized in the 20th century to express Santa Ana’s regional identity within El Salvador. The coat of arms includes an equilateral blue triangle with a Phrygian liberty cap on a staff, a rising sun, a rainbow symbolizing peace, and five small blue-and-white flags recalling the Federal Republic of Central America, surrounded by a green laurel wreath of fourteen leaves representing the department’s fourteen municipalities and a ribbon with the motto “Dios, Unión, Libertad.”
