History

The flag of Malacca was adopted in 1957 when Malacca joined the Federation of Malaysia. Its colors and symbols carry established meanings: red represents bravery and sacrifice, white stands for peace and purity, and yellow denotes Malay royalty. The crescent and five-pointed star are Islamic emblems, with the star’s five points referring to the five pillars of Islam. The design also reflects earlier Sultanate banner traditions.
