The flag of Johor was adopted in 1871. Its navy-blue field symbolizes the universe and the authority of the state government, the red canton represents the warriors who defend the state, the white crescent denotes Islam, and the white five-pointed star signifies Johor’s sovereign ruler. The flag has a 1:2 proportion and its color scheme was also used in related state and royal standards.
