The flag of Liechtenstein is a horizontal blue-over-red bicolor with a gold crown in the upper hoist corner.
Liechtenstein’s flag uses blue and red colors associated with the principality since the 18th century princely livery. The present horizontal layout was codified in the 1921 constitution. On 24 June 1937, a gold crown was added in the upper hoist after the blue-red bicolor was found to be identical to Haiti’s civil flag at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The blue represents the sky, the red symbolizes evening hearth fires, and the crown signifies the unity of the people with their prince and the country’s monarchical heritage.
