The national flag of Ukraine is a horizontal bicolour of blue over yellow.
The blue and yellow colours have deep roots in Ukrainian heraldic tradition, including the medieval Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia and later regional arms and banners. The blue-and-yellow bicolour was revived in 1848 in Lviv as a national emblem, became the national flag of the Ukrainian People's Republic in 1918, was suppressed during the Soviet period, and was officially restored on 28 January 1992 after independence. The colours are widely interpreted as a blue sky above golden wheat fields.

Yellow-over-blue flag approved
