Flag of Jersey: a red saltire on a white field with a yellow crown above a red shield bearing three gold lions in the upper hoist area.
The flag of the Bailiwick of Jersey consists of a red saltire on a white field in a 3:5 proportion, with a yellow Plantagenet crown above the island’s badge in the upper hoist quadrant. The badge shows a red shield with three gold lions passant guardant, reflecting Jersey’s historic coat of arms and ties to the English Crown. A plain red saltire had long been used for Jersey before the modern flag was adopted by the States of Jersey on 12 June 1979, proclaimed on 10 December 1980, and first officially hoisted on 7 April 1981. The addition of the crown and badge helped distinguish it from the St Patrick’s Cross.
