History
The flag of Irkutsk Oblast was adopted on 25 July 1997. It has proportions of 2:3 and a 1:2:1 arrangement of blue, white, and blue vertical stripes. The central emblem is a stylized black babr, a traditional heraldic beast from Siberian heraldry, holding a red sable and framed by cedar branches. The blue symbolizes Lake Baikal and the region’s rivers, white represents purity and snowy Siberian winters, and green refers to hope and the forest wealth of the region.
