History
The flag of Donetsk Oblast was adopted on 17 August 1999 and was created by artist Nina Shcherbak. It has a 2:3 proportion. The rising sun symbolizes the region as the first part of Ukraine to greet the daylight each day, and also represents hope, vitality, and prosperity. The blue field evokes the sky and the region’s rivers and natural resources.
