Flag of Connacht: a vertical white-and-blue bicolor with a black eagle on the white half and an armored arm holding an upright sword on the blue half.
The flag of Connacht is the province’s banner of arms. Its design derives from the provincial coat of arms, recorded on a 1651 map of Galway and later formalised in 17th-century heraldic rolls. The black eagle reflects an imperial heraldic element associated with the Schottenkloster in Regensburg and the Holy Roman Emperor, while the armed hand with sword is linked to the martial heritage of Connacht’s ruling families, including associations with the O’Brien dynasty. The flag is used alongside the other provincial flags of Ireland and appears in modern sporting contexts.
