Flag of Buryatia featuring horizontal blue, white, and yellow stripes with a yellow Soyombo emblem at the hoist in the blue band.
The flag of the Republic of Buryatia was adopted on 29 October 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was designed by N. Batuyev, V. Abayev and S. Kalmykov. The design is a horizontal tricolour of blue, white and yellow in a 2:1:1 arrangement with a yellow Soyombo emblem on the hoist side of the blue band. The Soyombo includes three flames representing past, present and future, and a sun signifying life and vitality. The colors are associated with the region’s sky and waters, purity and peace, and Buddhist heritage and prosperity.
