Light blue flag with a gold Nordic cross interlaced with a white ring to form a Celtic cross, and a gold birlinn with five oars in the canton.
The Isle of Skye flag was adopted on 24 September 2020 after a community vote and approval by the Lord Lyon. It was designed by Calum Alasdair Munro. The light blue field refers to the island’s name and the colors of its shinty team. The yellow Scandinavian-style cross interlaced with a white circle forms a Celtic cross recalling Skye’s Viking past. The birlinn in the canton represents the maritime heritage of the Hebrides and the historic Kingdom of the Isles, while its five oars symbolize Skye’s five peninsulas: Trotternish, Waternish, Duirinish, Minginish, and Sleat. The yellow and blue also honor historic island clans including the MacLeods and the MacDonalds or MacKinnons.
