History
The flag of Transcarpathian Oblast was officially adopted on 27 February 2009 in a 3:2 proportion. It was designed by V. Shelepets. The blue and yellow bicolor reflects Ukraine’s national colors, while the canton bears the oblast’s coat of arms associated with the historic region of Carpathian Ruthenia. Its adoption followed earlier flag proposals in 1990 and a public design contest announced in 2006 that produced several candidates before the final version was approved.
