History

The flag of Kaliningrad Oblast was officially adopted on 9 June 2006. Its design uses red, yellow, and blue horizontal bands with a white fortress and the monogram of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna in the canton. The fortress refers to the region’s historic stronghold and its open gate symbolizes hospitality. Blue represents the Baltic Sea, yellow symbolizes wealth, and red symbolizes work and industriousness. The imperial monogram connects the oblast to the 1758 capture of the city during the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna.
