The flag of Seoul was officially adopted on 10 June 1990. Its white field represents peace and purity. The central stylized design is associated with the city name in Hangul and evokes the flow of the Han River, while the contrasting curved form refers to Namsan Mountain and the city’s energy. The use of blue and red reflects the balance also seen in the Korean taegeuk tradition.
