History
The flag of the Riau Islands Province was adopted when the province was created in 2002. Its red field represents courage, vitality, and the archipelago’s maritime heritage, while white represents purity and the Islamic faith. The star symbolizes the five main island groups—Bintan, Batam, Karimun, Lingga, and Natuna—and their unity, and the crescent reinforces the province’s Islamic cultural identity.
