Flag of Jakarta, a red provincial flag with the gold coat of arms centered above a white horizontal stripe at the bottom.
The flag of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta uses a red field, a white stripe at the bottom, and the province’s gold coat of arms at the center. The red field represents courage, dynamism, and the spirit of Jakarta’s people, while the white stripe evokes peace and the city’s maritime heritage. The central emblem incorporates a five-pointed star for sovereignty, the stylized National Monument for Jakarta’s status as the national capital, a lotus flower for purity, a sheaf of rice for prosperity, and a wavy line for the Ciliwung River. The coat of arms was adopted in 1966, and the flag was formally enacted on 10 March 1975 as a post-independence civic symbol whose red-and-white palette echoes the national colors of Indonesia.
