History
The flag of the Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte was adopted after the region received autonomous status in 2007, with the design approved by the regional council in early 2008. Its symbolism links the green to rainforest and indigenous peoples, the white to peace, unity, and cultural diversity, and the blue to the Atlantic Ocean and the region’s rivers, including the Río Coco.
