History
The municipal flag of Târgu Mureș is based on the city’s heraldic identity and was adopted in the mid-1990s during the post-communist reaffirmation of local symbols. The crown above the shield refers to the city’s status as a royal free city since the 17th century. The flag draws on heraldic elements long associated with Târgu Mureș and represents the city’s local identity within Transylvania.
