History
The flag of Oost-Vlaanderen, the Belgian province of East Flanders, uses the historic Flemish lion as its central emblem. The black lion on gold is associated with the medieval County of Flanders and represents the province’s medieval heritage. The flag was formally recognized in 1984 and has been used as a provincial symbol on official buildings and at civic events.
