History

The flag of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania was officially adopted on 2 October 1991. Its white, red, and yellow colors symbolize moral cleanliness, martial courage, and wealth and happiness. The color scheme was chosen to reflect an ancient Indo-European three-part social structure and is also distinct from the similar flag used by South Ossetia, whose middle stripe is typically a brighter red.
