History
North Maluku became a separate province in 1999 during Indonesia’s decentralisation reforms. The provincial symbolism uses red for courage and historic sacrifice and white for purity and peace, while the seal incorporates a five-pointed star for unity, a traditional boat and waves for maritime heritage, a coconut palm and foliage for natural wealth, and a shield for protection and authority.
