The flag of Corsica is a white field charged with a black Moor’s head wearing a white bandana on the forehead.
The Corsican flag was adopted by Pasquale Paoli in 1755 during the Corsican Republic and was re-adopted in 1980 as the regional flag of Corsica. Its emblem is the Moor’s head, a symbol with medieval heraldic roots. The white bandana was originally shown over the eyes, but Paoli moved it to the forehead to symbolize liberation from Genoese rule and the recovery of freedom.
