History
The flag of La Rioja was officially adopted on 6 September 1982 and appears in the Statute of Autonomy. It consists of four equal horizontal bands of red, white, green, and yellow in a 2:3 proportion. A plain version exists for civil use, while the version with the centered coat of arms is used by official bodies and entities. The design grew out of a popular 1977 student-led contest and became a symbol of regional identity.
