The flag of Vietnam consists of a red field with a large centered yellow five-pointed star.
Vietnam’s national flag is a 2:3 rectangular banner with a red field and a centered five-pointed golden star. The design was created in 1940 and was first raised during the Cochinchina uprising. It was formally adopted by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on 2 September 1945, and after the reunification of North and South Vietnam on 2 July 1976 it became the flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The red field symbolizes revolutionary struggle and the blood shed for independence, while the five points of the star represent the unity of intellectuals, farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, and soldiers.
