#0090 · national
The national flag of Jordan features three horizontal bands of black, white, and green, with a red triangle at the hoist containing a white seven-pointed star.
Adopted on 18 April 1928, the flag of Jordan is based on the flag of the Arab Revolt of 1916 and uses the pan-Arab colors. The black, white, and green bands represent historic Arab caliphates, commonly identified as the Abbasid, Umayyad, and Fatimid traditions. The red triangle honors the Hashemite dynasty and the Arab Revolt. The white seven-pointed star symbolizes Arab unity and the seven verses of Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Qur’an.
Stripe order changed
The white stripe was moved from the bottom to the center, between the black and green stripes.
Current flag adopted
The national flag, including its seven-pointed white star, was adopted on 16 April 1928.
Flag reaffirmed at independence
The flag’s arrangement was reaffirmed during Jordan’s declaration of independence.
