The national flag of Estonia is a horizontal tricolor of blue, black, and white in equal bands.
The blue-black-white tricolor became the national flag of Estonia on 21 November 1918. Its colors originated with the Estonian Students’ Society, and the banner was first consecrated at Otepää on 4 June 1884 during the national awakening. The flag was banned after the Soviet occupation in 1940, survived as a symbol of national identity during the Soviet era, and was readopted on 7 August 1990 before being officially reinstated in 1991.
