Chuvashia

The flag of Chuvashia has been used officially since 14 October 1992. It is proportioned 5:8 and uses the traditional Chuvash colors of gold and purple-red. The upper field occupies four-fifths of the height and represents the sunlit space inhabited by the Chuvash people, while the lower stripe symbolizes the territory of Chuvashia. The central Tree of Life, derived from ancient Chuvash runic and ornamental forms and resembling a revered oak, signifies unity, spiritual harmony, resilience, and connection to nature. Earlier Soviet-era flags of the Chuvash ASSR used different designs, including one identical to the flag of the Russian SFSR.
