Flag of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand, with a red field and the provincial seal in white at the center.
The flag of Chiang Rai province uses a plain red field with the provincial seal centered in white. The seal depicts a white elephant crowned in gold, representing royal authority and recalling Chiang Rai’s historic role as a former Lanna capital and the meaning of its name, “city of the king.” Stylized outlines of Doi Tung and the Kok River represent the province’s mountains and waterways, while rice stalks symbolize its agricultural base. The red field echoes a longstanding Thai national color, and the flag was officially adopted in the early 2000s as part of a broader movement to give each province a distinctive banner.
