History
The flag of Surin Province was formally adopted in 2000. It replaced an earlier provincial flag that placed the provincial seal on the national flag. The seal depicts Indra riding the celestial white elephant Airavata, a motif derived from a Khmer temple in the province and associated with Surin’s Khmer heritage and its nickname, the City of Elephants. The red band symbolizes bravery and sacrifice, the yellow band honors Buddhism and the Thai monarchy, and the green band represents fertile land and agricultural wealth.
