History
The flag of Udon Thani province was formalized by the Thai Ministry of Interior in 2000. It uses a red field with the provincial seal at the center and the name “Udon Thani” in red on a white label beneath. The seal depicts a Yaksha identified as Vaiśravaṇa, the Buddhist guardian of the north, reflecting the meaning of the province’s name as “northern city” and symbolizing protection and prosperity. An earlier version placed the provincial seal on the national flag of Thailand.
