History
The flag of Chalatenango was created after a public design contest won by Patrocinio Córdova Aguilar. It was proclaimed on 27 April 1969, officially adopted on 15 May 1969, and first raised on 29 May 1969. Its colors symbolize the sky and El Salvador, peace, and the department’s mountainous and agricultural landscape, while the plow represents Chalatenango’s rural character.
