Green flag of the Canton of Sankt Gallen with a centered white fasces outlined in black, topped by an axe blade and bound with green bands.
The flag of the Canton of Sankt Gallen dates to 1803, when the canton was created from eight former territories of the Helvetic Republic. Its white and light-green colors were adopted as symbols of a new political order, with green associated with revolution and freedom. The central fasces represents authority, justice, sovereignty, unity, and the joining of the canton’s original districts; later revisions altered the weapon form and small details, but the overall design remained the same.
