Vertical tricolor of red, gold, and dark green with a bold black, circular Sankofa-inspired emblem centered on the gold stripe—symbolizing the heritage, resilience, and future of the African Nova Scotian community.
Designed by Nova Scotian visual artist Wendie L. Wilson, the African Nova Scotian flag was officially unveiled and raised on 15 February 2021 at the Black Cultural Centre in Cherry Brook. The colors signify red for the blood and sacrifice of ancestors, gold for cultural richness, green for growth and fertility, and black for the people. Wilson’s central emblem adapts the West‑African Adinkra symbol Sankofa and incorporates a yin–yang; the design also includes a wave element referencing the Atlantic and the Middle Passage, and an incomplete ring alluding to what is missing but forthcoming. The flag has been officially recognized by the Province of Nova Scotia.
